RIP Joe Kubert

RIP Joe Kubert, a comic legend and founder of the Kubert School of Cartooning.

As someone who had spent an amazing eight years in the Saturday Sketch Classes at his school in Dover, I never really got the chance to get to know him, with very brief, slightly awkward interactions between him and me every once in a blue moon. As a matter of fact, I’ve probably only spoken to him twice, and neither of those times were anything I would have really wanted to speak to him about, like art and cartooning, or letting him evaluate my own work, as I’ve heard he was often happy to do with others. Whether this had to do with his rare appearances during Saturday mornings or my own nervousness at speaking to a living legend and my inability to hear his soft-spoken voice, I’ll never really know.

I wish during my admittedly ridiculously long time in the Saturday classes I could have gotten more chances to interact with Joe and show him my work, and deeply regret having passed up any of those chances. I’m sorry Joe, you’ll be missed.
